Holiday Accidents Statistics Are Disclosed By Highway Patrol Chief . The critical hours for traffic deaths during the recent Fourth of July holiday weekend were between 9 p.m. and midnight, although non-fatal accidents occured most frequently during the late afternoon and early evening hours. These facts were disclosed in a review of the traffic accidents investigated by the California Highway Patrol released last week by Patrol Commissioner Bradford M. Crittenden. . "Seven of the 21 fatal accidents the Patrol investigated during the holiday occured during this time period, " Crittenden declared. "They killed eight persons, eight of whom were drivers and the other a passenger, and both drivers were killed in one of the accidents, " Except for the time element, there was little similarity among these incidents, Crittenden noted. “T wo were single car mishaps in which the driver lost control of his car and ran off the roadway. Three cars were involved in one crash in which one vehicle was on the wrong side of a divided highway. Its driver was killed. "Both drivers died in a head-on collision that occurred when one driver crossed over the center line of atwo-laneroadway. An intersection collision between twocars cost the life of one driver and brought criminal charges against the other. "A rear-end collision between two moving cars on a freeway killed a passenger in the struck car, and the eighth victim was the driver of a parked car that was struck by a passing truck. "Of the 13 drivers involved, two were classed as obviously intoxicated and twowere reported to have been drinking-enough to impair their driving ability to some degree. The other nine, including five who were killed, had not been drinking. " More than one-third of the nonfatal accidents investigated by the Highway Patrol occurred between 5 p.m. and 10p. m., Crittenden said, More than half of the accidents occurred in the counties in which at least one of the drivers involved resided. In fatalaccidents, howfever, only 42% of the drivers were in their homecounty, and almost 10% were non-California residents. Weeeeeeeas JUST ONE WILL DO! For this purpose, just one will do.
