Lajoie, of Newtown Rd. was cited into Nevada City Justice Court July 14 by California Division of Forestry Parrolman Bill Bagley for violation of. Section 12755 of the Health and Safety Code which makes it a misdemeanor to set off fireworks of any kind in forest, fallows, grass or brush covered land without a permit from the Division of Forestry. Mrs, Lajoie pled guilty before Judge Verle Gray andher fine was suspended. Volunteer Fire Department Election Set Annyal election of officers for the Nevada City Volunteer Fire Department will be held Saturday evening at Pioneer Park. Assistant Chief Jim Sharp is the candidate for chief and Leonard Valdez is the candidate for the post of assistant chief. Donald Wasley is the retiring chief.

Land To Be Withdrawn try, and purchase under the gen eral mining laws, subject to existing valid claims, has been announced by the manager of the Land Office, Bureau of Land Man~agement, at Sacramento, The application for the withdrawal was filed by the Assistant Secretary of Agriculture, and was recordes on the public land recordsin the Land Office at Sacramento on July 2, 1964. The public lands involved are required to prevent mining activties which would be adverse ‘to public recreation use. A detailed description of the lands in the’ proposed withdrawal will appear shortly in the Federal Register and will be posted in the Land Office at Sacramento, In the Post Offices at Sacramento, San Francisco and in the offices of the Sierra County Recorder, Downieville. For a period of 30 days from the date of publication of the notice of proposed withdrawal in the Federal Register, persons having cause may present their objections to the manager, Land Office, Bureau of Land Management, 4201 U.S. Courthouse and Federal Building, 650 Capitol Mall, Sacramento 14. Dr. Robert Ross Elected Board Chairman the Campus Center. The administration was directed to proceed as rapidly as possible with this project. Several additional campus projects authorized to be prepared for bidding were: night lighting of the parking areas and the central portion of the campus; development of walks, irrigation and landscaping of the area south of the library building; erection ofa fence around the water storage pond; and installation of irrigation and landscaping at the main entrance to the campus. Authorization was granted to call for bids for engineering equipment made possible through the National Defense Education Act which reimburses half of the expenditure, and toap ply for federal v oc ational educational funds now authorized by the Perkins Act of 1963. Spark Arrester Violation John C. Fly of 430 Butler St., Grass Valley,, appeared in the Justice Court July 15 to answer @ citation issued by California Division of Forestry Patrolman Bill Bagley for violation of Public Resources Code Section 4167, operating a bulldozer without a spark arrester. This was responsible for starting a 20 acre forest fire July 8 near Bridgeport Rd. Fly pled guilty Blood Bank Here The Sacramento Medical Foundation Mobile Blood Bank unit will visit Nevada City on Tuesday, July 20, under the auspices of the Nevada City Fire Department and the Grass Valley Jaycees. The bloodbank will be located at the Veterans Memorial Buil-— ding. Hours for blood donors will be from 11 a.m. to1 p.m. and from 2to6 p.m.before Judge Victor Montre and receiveda suspended sentence with summary probation ordering partial payment of suppression costs in the amount of $400.00. Ranger Robert Burns of the California Division of Forestry urges everyone who uses or operates any internal combustion engine on oF near any forest, brush, or grass covered land to first equip the engine with an effective spark arrester. The only exceptions to this law are: motor trucks, truck trac~ tors, buses and passenger ve~ hicles.
