in track race
at Santa Clara
SANTA CLARA = Nevada
county's road runner on wheels,
Don Davis, switched to an enclosed oval last weekend and
finished second in the state track
bicycle championship,
The Nevada City teen-ager
is more practiced at distance
bicycle competition up and down
hills and across country, while
the youth who beat him, Antonio
Gato of San Jose, is a specialist
at closed track cycling,
Still, Davis was tied with Gato
for the state junior championship after regulation events were
completed.
They settled the issue in a
sprint runoff which Gato won,
The second place finish qualifies Davis for a try at the national junior championship in
the track event.
Next weekend, Davis will compete at Santa Rosa in the state
junior cross country competition.
