He noted 6,200 acres have been officially designated as the South Yuba Recreation Lands to_ give the public more familiarity with the public domain near the river. Recalling the construction in 1968 of the South Yuba Riding and Hiking Trail by the BLM, Traylor called it "an instantaneous success," The BLM plans to extend the trail downriver from Edward's Crossing to Purdon Crossing if funds are available during the 197273 fiscal year, he said. "We're going to manage the South Yuba as if it were already classified under the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act," Traylor told a gathering of 30 persons, He said the South Yuba currently awaits "study river" classification so it can be given detailed analysis to determine whether it meets criteria of the federal act. Luckily, being on a party line, someone was using the phone at the time, He called for help stating he was in great pain with a busted leg! The party-liner, Alice Leffingwell, quickly contacted Mr. Gaus’ sister and had an ambulance dispatched post haste, They (Mrs, Leffingwell and Mrs, Landsburg) then made Charlie as comfortable as possible while awaiting the arrival of the ambulance, ; After a short stay in Miners Hospital, Malakoff's nonagenarian was back on his feet and now spends his time between North Bloomfield and Nevada City, Glad to see you back, Charlie. * OK OK OK ; PICNICKING: Ample tables for a day's outing are provided in the 'Clamp-picnic" area adjacent to the general store. Tables are in well-shaded areas with water and stoves, For those who have never been to MDSHP, why not pack a picnic lunch, some potables, etc,, and head up Hiway 49 — following the signs to the Malakoff Diggins? Bring what you need, no stores in the park, . * * * * TRIVIA: Favorite query of many of the first-time visitors from the "flatlands" — "Is there any other way out of here so we don't have to drive back over those rough, dusty roads?"
