09 ' _ comparable to the sustained yield . Lower Than Last Year " every year. The Nevada County Sportsmen hold bi-weekly trapshoots at the club grounds, Canada Hill. Turn uphill at Bergemann Funeral Home, Nevada City, and follow direction signs. Lunch and_refreshments available. Shotgun shells can be purchased but shooterg are advised to bring their own, The Nevada County Sportsmen, Incorporated, do more than hold bi-weekly trapshoots, The organigation is dedicated to improvement of recreational resources. It_ is actively striving to stop stream pollution. It favors and actively crusades forincrease of California’s fish and wild game supply, not merely to have more but the club’s objective is to have more to permit.a larger harvest. Not a slaughter, as some do-gooders claim, but a balanced harvest, system followed by timber interests. t Recognizing that’ improvement of habitat for fish and wild game permits a larger fish and game population, the club also recognizes the fact that Nature herself takes a heavy toll and that fishing and hunting pressure causes a relatively low percentage of wildlife mortality. Therefore, the club believes that a balanced harvest of fish and game is in the best interests of both the wild life and the sportsmen of California. We ask: why let good sport and/good eating go to waste when the’ factual findings of experienced biologists and competent Aield observers prove that there is wildlife enough for our increasing population to harvest a much higher percentage than is being done at present. The club is in favor.of eonservation; it is firmly opposed to raising more game and then letting it go to waste. The club favors game management as defined by our competent professionals: briefly, game management is “Raise more game so that California sportsmen can harvest more game.” Incidentally, those whose only interest in wild life is to look at it should realize that balanced harvest invariably provides more game to look at while at the same time it provides more recreation and table pleasure for the sportsmen who harvest it. Trailer House Fees Senii-annual apportionment of trailer coach fees to the counties amounted to $434,102, State Controller Alan Cranston reported this ‘week. Of that amount, Nevada County received $1,186.75, Mr. Cranston said. : : The money goes to the county auditor, who then divides it equally among the county, city, if any, and school district in which the trailer is registered. The apportionment covers the first half of the 1958-59 fiscal year, Mr. Cranston said. It is by far the smaller of the two trailer coach fee -apportionments made Mr. Cranston said the comparable figure for the 1957-58 fiscal year was $341,408. GOING PLACES? This study shall include the testing of the most promising management methods, and an analysis of the physical and biological changes which have taken place. In order to obtain this objective, the following be done: (a) Determine the approximate production of game fish in past years, from. an analysis of published records, and the present Production of the lake, by creel ‘ensus.
