Deaths GRAVES ---in the Jones Memorial Hospital February 25, 1964, Mrs, John F. Graves of Colfax Highway. She was the aunt of R. E. McGregory of Colfax Highway, with whom she made her home. She wasa native of Pennsylvania aged 86 years. She came to Grass Valley in 1945 after the death of her husband. First Methodist Church funeral services were held in the Hooper Weaver Mortuary Feb. 26. The body was shipped to Billings, Mont. for burial. +++ 4+ JOHNSON---in the Holiday Hills Convalescent Hospital February 29, 1964, Lela Ellan Johnson of Cedar Ridge. She was the mother of Hazel Newman, San Francisco, Marguerite Bellamy, Boise, Ida., Meritt Newman, Cedar Ridge; stepmother of Marvin Newman, Idaho Falls, Ida. and aunt of Frances Cherry, Portland, Ore. She was a native of Cooper Hollow, Oregon, aged 90 years. She came to Grass Valley in 1932 and later married Alex Johnson, who died in 1940. Pastor Harry Wagner of the Cedar Ridge Community Church conducted funeral services in the Hooper Weaver Mortuary Feb. 28. Burial was in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. +++ +/+ DAVIES ---in Marysville February 26, 1964, Martha Davies of Marysville. She was the aunt of Amy DeSoto, Grass Valley, Stella Christenson, Nevada City, Alton and Craig Davies, Nevada City, Lionnel Davies, Foresthill, Ann Immely, Hollywood, Lloyd and Edwin Taylor, Hollywood; sister in law of Olive Davies, Nevada City. She was the sister of the late Thomas Davies, Alleghany, and the late Frank Davies, Nevada City. She was a native of Foresthill, aged78 years. Funeral services were held in Marysville and burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Nevada City. + +++ + JOHNSON ---in the Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital February 21, 1964, Dwayne Edwin Johnson. She was a native of Kansas, aged 71 years. She moved to Grass Valley in 1935 with her family and she and her husband were the founders of the Brighton Street Grocery. Funeral services were held in Hooper-Weaver Mortuary March 4. Burial was in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

He was the cousin of Retha Downey and Beth Wilson of Nevada City and Alden Austin, Cecil Austin, Leah Elkus and Vashti Merrifield of Grass Valley aged74 years. He was the first manager and developer of the Nevada County District Fair. He attended Grass Valley schools, played footballin his high school days and became one of the earlier volunteers in World War I as a member of the original Company D, California National Guard. He served tor several years as a member of the Repub-" lican Central Committee. He was one of the original organizers of the Hydraulic Mining Association of California.
