North Star
The Winters chapter of Future
Farmers of America is adopting
the North Star Project as part
ofa national contest, ‘building
our American communities.”
North Star is a school and
home outside Grass Valley for
young people who need
assistance. Many have been on
drugs, others are from broken
homes and still others need help
for various reasons.
Dr. William Mansdoerfer _is
director of North Star. Of the
1100 young people who have
been at North Star since its
beginning, 8) per cent have
returned to normal and useful
lives.
The Winters FFA. will lend,a
helping hand in providing food
that can be processed or stored.
Food is the largest item of the
North Star budget. The FFA
students will contact farmers
around Winters and other areas
of the state, asking for donations
of from two to five boxes of
produce.
Other FFA chapters will also
be contacted, asking for
donations of foods not grown in
the Winters area. An advisor for
the Winters chapter has
volurteered -to transport all of
‘adopted’
the produce donated to Grass
Valley.
Any other FFA chapters who
wish to help in the project may
contact Randy West_or John
