We have lost a friend a fine Christian woman whom everyone loved, I can say no truer thing than this: Elma Hecker lived her entire life for others, She was one of the hap; plest people I have ever : known, intelligent and unpretentious, and kind, Her great heart found opportunity .in the country, unloading » groceries, Many groceries, And a regular Tiny Tim Christmas dinner, smoking hot from the Kopp ovens, The goose was a turkey, huge and brown, Elma had managed the trimmings in herhome, But the thing that brought sparkle to the shabby children's eyes were the bright red mosquitobar thr oughout her life to do the stockings chock full of the worthwhile, kindly thi ngs that most of us overlook, She wasa deeply religious woman, perhaps I should say a Christian woman, who lived her religion daily, It was never a Sunday thing to her. Today I am remembering something she did many years ago, It wasn't an unusual thing for Elma, it was her way of life, The time was near Christmas anda man had been convicted of a loath; Some crime and sent away, leaving his helpless family to the scorn and coldness of unthinking neighbors, Courthouse gossip reached Elma's ears and her great heart was touched, “Why there were children . _ and it was almost Christmas, . City have had the new num. something had to be done, " things children always love, Elma Hecker loved life and people and was in turn loved. She will live long in the heartsand minds of all wh o knew her, . AliNumber ‘Phones For Up Country . Grass Valley and Nevada ber system, known as all;Rumber calling, or ANC, . Since July, 1960, ANC is gradually being introduced ; throughout the nation. . Pacific Telephone Manager G. O, Hutchins said that starting in November, people getting new phone service or mOving to another location in the exchanges of 'Alleghany, Camptonville , . Downieville, and North San Juan will be given the new all-number phone numbers, For example, the Downieville prefix BU 9 becomes 289, Alleghany AT 7 is 287, Camptonville AV 8 is 258, and North San Juan.AX 2 is 292. All Pacific Telephone customers in these areas are expected to get the new numbers in less than five years, In fact, Hutchins said, Pacific Telephone expects to have all its phone numbers in California changed to all-number calling by 1968, The reason for the change is population growth, he said,
