Administration has been authorized by newly signed Public Law
86-113 to pay benefits to certain
veterans. dischargd as enemy
aliens unless the discharge was, at
their own request, ~. ;
Duing World War I, instructions
were issued by the Secretary of
War that aliens in the U. S. miliary service, who were from countries with which we were at war,
should be dicharged if they so
requested,
However, the instructions were
misunderstood in some cases and
arbitrarily, Those who wanted to
remain in service were: therefore
the victims of an injustice because
they were grouped with the aliens
who did request discharye and
were subsequently denied ‘any
veterans benefits.
The new law provides that no

VA Loan Right
Is Not Restored
Automatically
A veterans’s eligibility for a
GI loan is not restored automatically when he sells his Gl-purchased home and obtains a VA
release from liability to the government on the loan,. VA warns.
Release of the veteran from liability to the.government does not
affects VA’s guaranty on the loan:
As long as the guaranty is outstanding, no restoration of GI
loan rights can be extended the
veteran,
Even if the loan is paid in full,
thus relieving VA of liability to
the lender, a veteran’s entitlement to another GI loan ‘may be
restored only when the property:
1. Was taken by a government
agency for public use;
2. Was destroyed by natural
hazard; or
3. Was. disposed of for compelling reasons such as health,
employment transfer, change to a
better job in another city, or
other easons considered sufficient
by the VA. ,
In such cases, veterans should
apply to the nearest VA office

GI Trainees Must
Send In Certtificates
The Nation’s half million veterans in training under the Korean GI Bill can save therhselves
a lot of trouble and delay if they
take the time to mark the first
of each month on their calendars
with the reminder: “GI Cerificate
Due Soon.”
Veterans Administration explained that. this is a monthly
certification of class attendance
that must be signed by the veteran and by a representative of
his school and sent to VA prompt
ly after each month of. training
completed,
Generally the school will reJuly 1, widows of World War II

Widows of World War I veterans
have always had only this simply
active duty requirement.
At present, widows of World
War II and Korea must submit
evidence that the veteran had a

The VA asks veterans and dependents not to write directly to

the month, but sometimes the
veterans will have to give: the
school a quick reminder.
Under the law, VA must have
a signed certificate before it can
send a veteran his monthly GI
allowance check. If the certificate doesn’t come in, the check
can’t go out. If the certificate is
received late, the check will be
late.
Hence VA’s suggestion to mark
the calendar to be sure that certificates are sent in on time.

The show, which. continues at

recently has been making tentative thrusts at the sky, space still
has the upper hand in its ceaseless assault on the earth’s atmosphere.
