Lions will be stationed in front of the Bank of October 31, 1962..Page3 GRASS VALLEY---The recent heavy storm and wind resulted in many fruit and shade trees being blown over in the County reports Farm Advisor Bill Helphinstine. Many of these can be saved if steps are immediately taken to stand them up. It will be necessary to anchor the lifted trée with posts or guy wire. A piece of rubber hose should be used around the tree or cutting into the tree, (lf trees have exposed roots, broken or crackéd roots the top should be pruned in proion to the root damage. Storm Damage Assessed limb to prevent wire from, Trees that have split or severe limb breakage should be pruned as soon as possible, Broken limbs should be removed and broken areas cut away as smoothly as possible. Large cuts may be covered with a wax or a better solution would be to paint these areas with a good Bordeaux Slurry. Whitewashing of exposed areas next spring would also be advisable. Where breakage has caused one-sided trees, heavy cutting on the opposite side may be necessary, Helphinstine concludes. DONALD C.
