xX = =, a ie ‘ } a, water off The walls of the D-S Canal broke late Saturday night or early Sunday, causing great quantities of mud to be dumped into Deer Creek. According to Nevada Irrigation District officials the break resulted because of erosion and super saturation of the walls of the canal, There is also an old mine shaft in the area and this combination probably caused the break, The D-S is one of the more important canals in the NID system, taking water nearly all the way to Beale Air Force Base, The break caused a water shortage for several hours to D-S canal breaks; 16 hours those customers on the line. Work crews from NID started on repairs at 5 a.m, Sunday and were not finished until 9 p.m, All together the crew of 10 men used 70 yards of concrete to make the repairs, The break was first noticed by police officers who saw the mud in Deer Creek about 2 a.m, Sunday and called NID to find out what had happened. Officials of NID wish to thank all the customers who are on the D-S for conserving water and being patient, They said that if water had not been conserved a real problem could have resulted.
