"native son," had been a full
time correspondent for the Sacramento Bee in Nevada City for
the past 20 years, He wasanoted
authority on Nevada county history and had instigated or was
part of numerous promotional
features highlighting his chosen
"home", Although he was not
born here he was qualifed as a
native son by his untiring efforts
in behalf of the community,
He was recognized for his guidance in theformation of the
Henness Pass Highway Association and revival of the local
Chapter of E Clampus Vitus, Hé
was historian of the local group.
and selected the name of the new
chapter of William Morris Stewart and assisted in drafting and
placing of many local histroical
plaques by the Clampers,
In recognition of his work in
promoting Henness Pass he was
perpetually elected honorary
Mayor of Meadowlake on the
annual jeep trek over the century old freight route over the
Sierras,
Renowned for his contributions
to journalism he received special recognition for his handling
of the Santo murder tiral in the
early 1950s and later the Una
Fine double-wife case, involving
the unexpected return of a prisoner of war, He was commended for his "Wild Horse Annie"

Area are closed to public access and use,
Tahoe National Forest Supervisor Henry Branagh announces
that the Yuba County Water
Agency has closed access and
use by the public in the eastern
protion of the Bullards Bar Project Area, The closure is authorized under a Federal Power
license issued to the Water
Agency, Reason for the closure
is due to the extreme fire hazard caused by clearing debris
and for safety reasons during
present clearing operations.
Roads in the Garden Valley
area and the Pepper Ranch
Campground are affected by the
closure, Camping in undeveloped
areas along the east side of the
Bullards BarReservoir also are
included in the closure,
Supervisor Branagh regrets
that the closure is necessary at
this time but acknowledges that .

August.
There were three misdemeanor
arrests which were for drunk
in public places; one felony outside warrant served; one sleeper;
nine juveniles were referred to
the Probation Department; one
theft; one shoplifting; and seven
incorrigables,

Two fraudulent checks reported
passed; 15 auto accidents reported and investigated, three
with injuries, Five prowler
