Well the fire of two weeks
ago is still news out our way,
the damage done is becoming more evident as the days
goby. The trees are looking
deader and its apparant to me
at least, that our neck of the
woods may not be woods anymore.

It looks like Shorty and
Vee Hibbs have a new car.
They lost their Station Wagon in the fire.

myself, that the fire
leveled about one hundred
acres of broom brush for them
and they have plans to seed
the land right away. I've
heard that broom brush is
actually stimulated by fire
though. and comes back up
twice as thick, we'll see.

Camptonville News
By IRENE STOOPS
The chill of Fall was in
the air during the last ten
days of August. But instead
of the good smell of burning
leaves, a haze of acrid smoke
from the numerous surrounding forest fires hung over our
community. Which brings a
feeling of sadness because of
the appalling destruction and
waste,
However, we should be
thankful that it was not any
w orse in our area and that
the federal and state forest
services withthe fine cooperation of the mills,
woods crews and individuals
didsuch an outstanding job.
We should also mention the
fine work of the Pacific Gas
and Electric Co. and the
Pacific Telephone Co, in
restoring service so promptly,

The old saying is that
troubles come in threes.
First, Camptonville District
had the Wolf Creek fire, then
the one at North San Juan,
and on Aug 27 at about 4
p.m. we had another in the
Wolf Creek area. The fire
covered about an acre. We
aretold that "mop-up” crews
will remain in the Wolf Creek

Cut into generous wedges to serve. Mokes 6 to 8 servings.
Pep up school-going lunches with a little imagination. Instead of the.
